Nestled in an 1800 acre private forest reserve on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, Malu is nothing short of spectacular. I have always wanted to go there, and hubby did not disappoint when he surprised me with a birthday weekend away! We stayed in a perfect little two-bedroom family cottage, overlooking the Rift Valley. (Anyone who knows us knows just how much we love travel when Claire gets her own bedroom!)
We dined in Malu’s award-winning Italian restaurant, and were treated to delicious pasta, funky salads (watermelon, mint and grape!), and fantastic coffee. Malu is also a fully-functioning farm, with horses, cows, donkeys, geese, ducks, chickens, rabbits, and plenty of wild flora and fauna to boot. Claire LOVED her close encounters with Malu’s resident animals.
But the REAL highlight for Claire was the donkey cart ride….
I have hardly ever seen her so excited about something in her little life… She was giggling, dancing, and looking at me with a cheeky grin. “Check me out, Mom! I’m going on a donkey cart ride!”
The fun and games weren’t all for Claire, either. Jesse got to fulfill a dream of his own, and rode a horse through the bird-filled forest reserve.
Indeed, Malu was amazing – the perfect holiday weekend getaway with my two favorite people…
