A couple of weeks ago, my good friend Lindsay and I took our babies to the Matbronze Gallery in Karen to have bronze impressions made of their tiny little hand and foot prints.
After making an appointment with the artist, Denis Mathews, we brought in our babies for the impressions. Denis uses warmed wax to make the initial impressions of baby’s hands and feet. The wax mold is then used to create the bronze print, with an inscription on the back. I included Heidi’s name, date of birth, weight, and date of impression.
We had Claire’s hand and foot prints done as well, when she was about 9 months old. The foot print lives with my mother, while we kept the hand print for ourselves. It makes a great gift for grandparents!
Matbronze is fun to check out, even if you don’t plan to have your children’s prints done. The gallery is full of gorgeous bronze wildlife, all native to Kenya. There’s also a nice coffee shop that has yummy lattes with cocoa paw prints on top. 🙂
Heidi’s prints will be ready for collection in a few more weeks. This time I think we’ll keep her foot print, and give the hand print to my mom for safe keeping!
If you want to get your child’s prints done, here are the details for booking your appointment. Prices are correct as of date of publishing, but are subject to change. Please call Matbronze for information.
