I took Claire to her first play a couple of weeks ago, and she loved it! There is a Children’s Theatre in my mom’s town, and they did a summer production of Goodnight Moon, based upon Margaret Wise Brown’s book of the same name.
If you’ve read Goodnight Moon (and I suspect many of you have!), then you know the story is pretty short and simple. I wondered how they would make a play out of such a short story. It turns out that EVERYTHING in the book – the telephone, the red balloon, the picture of the cow jumping over the moon, EVERYTHING – spins off into its own story line. The story was about how the little bunny needed to go to sleep, but he kept getting distracted by all the silly goings-on in his bedroom.
It was a really sweet story, and Claire loved seeing it live on stage! She got all dressed up (in a dress that she looks about 25 years old in – YIKES!), and we went out for a special lunch date afterward.
I loved getting the chance to have one-on-one time together with my big girl – something we don’t get to enjoy too often these days. We really bonded during our afternoon out, and Claire felt incredibly special. What a treat!
We will definitely go back for another show next summer… 🙂
