A fun (but ridiculous) project: 3D princess carriage cookies

A friend visited us from out of town recently, and she brought gifts for the kids. She handed them to the girls and whispered to me, “I hope you don’t kill me!” I was puzzled when I saw Claire open this fun-looking princess-themed sugar cookie kit. Making 3D princess carriage cookies! Sounds fun! Well, it was fun, but a 3D princess carriage cookie was not in the cards for us.

The girls had a lot of fun helping to make the sugar cookie dough, and even more fun helping to roll it out and cut out the shapes. Claire has been getting more interested in doing things herself, and she loves helping out in the kitchen.

Once the cookies were baked and cooled, the real fun began – decorating! I didn’t have time to make icing, so we used some tubes of glitter gel we bought last time we were in the US, and little silver candy balls as accents. Claire loved putting the gel on the cookies. Heidi loved eating the silver candy balls.

Okay, here’s where things fell apart (literally). Once the cookies were decorated, we were supposed to assemble the carriage. If it sounds confusing, the kit came with a carriage shape, a wheel shape, and a kind of axle shape. When the cookies were baked, you were supposed to assemble the shapes together to make a 3D carriage that could stand on its own. Haha! I think the photo speaks for itself…

3D Princess Carriage cookie disaster...

Okay, a 3D carriage did not happen, but we did have fun making the cookies. And luckily, the carriage cookies look cute, even when not assembled as a carriage. And we made a few other cookie shapes for fun, too. No matter the shape, they were certainly yummy to eat…

Do you bake with your kids? Do they love it?

I did bake with my kids and they are both accomplished bakers today! I look forward to baking with the girls again soon.
