Happy New Year – see you in 2016!

How is it possible that another year has passed? 2015 was a great one! I have truly loved writing, sharing our family’s experiences with all of you, and especially reading all of your comments and emails over the past twelve months. Thanks to all of you! Here’s a look back at some of the things we got up to this past year…

In 2015, we went on some amazing trips! We went camping at our favorite spot, took a day-trip to pick organic veggies, and had an incredible family trip to Cape Town. And – lucky me! – I had a luxurious (and much-needed) mama’s getaway without the kids! (And in 2016, I hope to visit some of these amazing places!)

Cool awards & guest blogs
This was a big year for the blog! I was so honored and excited to feature in Cup of Jo’s Motherhood Around the World series (seriously, the best series ever)! I also became a regular contributor for the World Moms Blog and Mums Village. Plus, Mama Mgeni made it to #24 on Lexiophile’s Top 100 International Exchange and Experience Blogs, and was nominated for the fun Sisterhood of the Traveling Bloggers Award!

I feel like both of the girls really changed a lot this year! I let strangers walk around with my baby, we came up with some cool kids’ party games, Claire learned to ride a two-wheeler in no time flat using this secret weapon, and we had some long, tough nights (and early mornings) with Heidi

Nairobi living
We got out there and enjoyed Nairobi for all it’s worth! We loved this exotic dining experience, took the girls to an indoor rock climbing gym, rocked out at the Harvest Festival, and were lucky enough to meet this real-life superhero of the Westgate attack.

What we read
Reading with our kids has always been a huge part of our family time. This year, we featured some wonderful books featuring black characters, and Claire fell in love with Enid Blyton’s short stories.

Stuff we loved
What’s not to love? We started to make homemade yoghurt (and it’s ridiculously easy!), put together some fun bird feeders, sent our housekeeper on this excellent first-aid training course, and fell in love with our organic kitchen garden.

I am so grateful to have such a wonderful community of readers – you guys make blogging a real joy! Thanks to all of you for your fun and thought-provoking comments, and the chance encounters I’ve had with some of you out and about in Nairobi and further afield! It has been wonderful connecting with all of you this year, and I am looking forward to more interesting interactions and exciting adventures in the year to come. Thanks for joining me! Happy New Year to all of you!
