Early-morning dance party with my girls

As many of you know, we have a lot of early mornings in our house.* When I was on morning duty a few weeks ago, I was hanging out in the living room with Claire and Heidi before the sun came up on a Sunday morning. The girls asked to listen to music, and asked if they wanted to have a dance party. I decided to play some They Might Be Giants, a band I loved in high school and college. I thought the girls would love “Istanbul (Not Constantinople) – I was right. We had a little dance party, right there in the living room, and got all sweaty dancing around.

I forgot what a joy it is to completely let loose and dance! We had such fun, we couldn’t stop laughing, until we fell in a heap on the floor, trying to catch our breath. We danced together until the sun came up. It was one of those beautiful, unexpected moments in parenting. Sometimes it takes spending time with your kids to remember what it’s like to be young… Have a lovely weekend, people! xx

Do you dance? Alone, with your partner, or with your kids? Tell me about it! 🙂

*PS – We’re working with a sleep consultant now, and I’m cautiously excited to report that we’ve seen some real improvements! So hopefully no more before-dawn dance parties for us… 😉 Stay tuned for more details!

We always have music in our house..kids and me in particular are always dancing and have done since they were babies. Think its a fab free fun way of being together and entertainment. ..and the boys have each developed their own tastes. .. Jacques at 5 likes hard rock to headbang and jump too!..Thomas is a little more smooth and adores Michael Jackson!!!! However stick some rap or dance music on and it is hilarious!

Sam, I want to meet your boys so badly! I love that they’ve developed their own musical tastes… Claire’s taste is all over the map, from Disney princess songs, to Afro-pop, to rap, to emo. I think her taste reflects whoever happens to be with her at the moment… 😉

We have a lot of dancing! Joey is really moved by music snd loves using his clapping sticks and dancing to music. Obviously he especially loves it when I join in.

This post began years ago when you got Istanbul (Not Constantinople) in my head… Or did I put it in your head??
