I decided to treat the girls to cupcakes this weekend. Full disclosure – I did not make these! As much as I love baking, I’m in my second week of solo parenting, and my energy levels are pretty low. Since I have been craving something sweet, I decided to organize a Saturday afternoon surprise for the girls and order some treats from Sugarpie Cupcakes.
My friend Nats has been singing the praises of Sugarpie Cupcakes for ages. While I’ve always been a fan of their delicious cashew butters, I’ve never splurged on the cupcakes – mostly because I was afraid of the temptation. Ordering from Sugarpie is almost too easy. You just go to their website, pick which flavors you want, and choose a delivery date and time. See what I mean? Too easy.
Needless to say, the girls were overjoyed at their surprise cupcake delivery. Claire and Heidi both had red velvet with cream cheese frosting. I had the dark chocolate with mocha buttercream, because I’m a total chocoholic. We went with the full-size cupcakes, which were absolutely enormous. As a result, none of us could eat the whole thing in one sitting! In the future, I would consider getting the mini cupcakes. They’re still a big treat, but half the size! I’m also curious to try the vanilla chai with chai buttercream. It sounds delicious!
With Jesse away for a long work stint, it’s nice to have some surprises up my sleeve for the girls. Weekends are the hardest part of solo parenting for me, and it’s nice to break up the monotony with a little bit of fun. Surprising the girls with cupcakes helped keep things light and easy for me, and fun for the girls. For a bright shining moment, I was Mommy of the Year. I’ll take it!
