A playdate and a wonderful, unexpected break!

I love to schedule lots of playdates to keep the girls busy during school holidays. The kids love to have playmates over, and I always find that having an extra child or two in the house makes parenting that much more manageable. Today, Wanja and her 9 (almost 10!) year old sister Isa came over to play. Wanja is a good friend of Claire’s from school, and Isa is one of those wonderful kids who doesn’t mind playing with the little ones. All four girls get along famously, and they had the most wonderful day together.

Let me tell you something, I want a 10 year old! Isa is the most mature, kind child, and having her around to play with the kids was like a spa holiday for me. Seriously, I felt like I was on vacation! She helped to keep an eye on Heidi all day, and her presence magically made everything go smoothly. The girls had a tea party. They told stories. They built castles. They painted. They smiled and laughed together all day long.

The day was perfect – not a single fight, not a single tear, not a single complaint of boredom. The children gobbled up their lunch in no time flat. Heidi had an incredible nap. Dinner time was a cinch. Wanja and Isa even helped give the girls a bath before bed!

I got so many things done that have been on my to do list for ages. And after I finished all that, I sat down and read my book. In broad daylight! I don’t remember the last time I was able to sit in my own house and read a book during the day. Amazing.

Thanks to Wanja and Isa for giving us the picture-perfect day together! Isa, I will be hiring you as a babysitter in the near future – you can count on it! 🙂
