We took a family trip to the Children’s Theatre this week to see a summer production of The Golden Goose. Claire and Heidi love plays and musicals, and this was a really fun show for the whole family. (We’re still hoping that the popularity of Tinga Tinga and The Jungle Book means that we’ll get more family-friendly arts in Nairobi!)
Once upon a time, a princess who was so unhappy that the queen decided to hold a contest to see who could make her laugh. One after another, people came to try to cheer the princess up, but no one managed. A young man with a golden goose finally succeeded when the entire court accidentally became stuck to one another while trying to chase the goose. The sight of everyone running around stuck together with the golden goose finally made the princess laugh!
My grandmother is also here for a visit! All together, we represent four generations of women in our family. Such a treat! The girls love having two doting grandmothers around to read and play games with. It’s wonderful to have so much of our family together in one place!
As always, Heidi covered her ears during the entire play. She loved it, but she is always a bit overwhelmed by loud sounds and music! Both girls’ favorite character was Goldie, the Golden Goose. Her costume was covered in gold sparkles and feathers – an obvious favorite for my kids! My mom loved the magical tree that bopped people on the head when they tried to chop it down.
The girls loved getting to meet the actors after the show, and got all their autographs on their playbill. I love taking the kids to a play whenever we get the chance, and I’m happy to include this as part of our summer tradition! We’re looking forward to more shows in the year to come!
