We just got back from the Outer Banks in North Carolina, where we enjoyed a wonderful beach getaway with my best friend and her family. We spent the week enjoying marvelous sunrises, flying kites, and making (and destroying) sand castles. Here are a few photos, if you’d like to see…
We stayed about 100 meters from the beach, so each day we just hopped on our bikes and rode to the sand. The girls loved digging holes (okay, Jesse did most of the digging), building sand castles, and running away from the waves. Meanwhile, I loved sitting in my beach chair and reading a book! 😉
Since the sun was strong, we spent a ton of time slathering sunscreen on the girls. I swear, no matter how much sunscreen we use, Claire just gets as tan as could be within two seconds! Hence our long-sleeve SPF swimwear – it really helps reduce the sun exposure!
Since the beach was windy, we got a couple of great kites and had them in the air almost every day. The girls loved watching them soar! Claire accidentally let her kite go on the first day, but luckily we were able to track it down.
As per usual, with our two early birds, we didn’t miss a sunrise. This time around, we got to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean! Spectacular, as always…
One morning, we took a nice bike ride into town and treated the girls to Duck Donuts, which is an Outer Banks institution! They make your doughnuts to order, with a huge range of coatings, toppings, and drizzles. My favorite flavor was the cinnamon sugar, while the girls loved strawberry icing with sprinkles. Daring Jesse opted for the maple with bacon bits! The best part is watching your doughnuts being made. So much fun!
Most of all, we loved catching up with good friends and spending time as a family. We love you, OBX! We are already looking forward to next year’s beach trip!
