A fun pumpkin craft to do with the kids

pumpkin craft

It’s October, which is pumpkin season in the U.S.! Therefore, I’ve been making all things pumpkin lately – pumpkin swirl brownies, pumpkin smoothies, and even pumpkin ice cream. Since Claire wanted to get in on the action, we decided to do some fun pumpkin arts and crafts. Since my mom sent me this cute pumpkin craft idea, and we couldn’t wait to give it a try!

This craft was super easy. All we needed was an apple, some orange and green paint, and some craft paper. While I cut the apple in half to use as a stamp, Claire squirted some orange and green paint on a plastic plate. Claire couldn’t wait to see how we were going to use the apple. It was perfect for stamping pumpkins!

Claire got straight to work dipping her apple in the orange paint and stamping it on the page. More than anything, Claire loves painting, and she had a blast stamping the orange pumpkin shapes all over her paper. Once she filled the page with orange pumpkins, she got to work painting the green stems and vines.

We had planned to make little jack-o-lantern faces on all of the pumpkins, but Claire decided she loved them just as they were. I agree! They came out really cute, and Claire was incredibly proud of herself.

The end result is really cute, and Claire was able to do this completely on her own. We did this craft while Heidi was napping, but I think this one would be great for younger kids as well, with a bit of adult supervision. I love easy crafts that kids (even young ones) can do by themselves. Many of the crafts you find online are too complicated for little hands and the grownup winds up doing the craft themselves. No fun for the little ones! This pumpkin craft is great for all ages, and helped fill my need for all things pumpkin this October!

Such a great job! This looked like something the kids would love to do. So glad I shared it. Be sure to save a pumpkin for Nonnie! XOXOX

So fun! Do you make your own pumpkin puree here, bring from the States, or can it be bought somewhere in Nairobi? Would love to get my hands on some!

    • Mama Mgeni says:

I make my own puree. Here’s my secret – I actually use pureed butternut instead of pureed pumpkin most of the time. I find cutting and cooking butternut much easier, and the taste is so similar that the butternut is an excellent substitute.

Great sharing! And how do you make Pumpkin ice cream? or shakes?
On a different note, do you have milk Kefir grains?

I’ll have to share my pumpkin ice cream recipe sometime… 🙂 Pumpkin shakes are easy!
      1 cup milk
      ½ cup pumpkin puree
      1 teaspoon honey
½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice)
      1 sweet banana
      6 ice cubes
Throw it all in a blender! YUM.
