The Chyulu Hills have long been on my list. I was inspired months ago after having read a post by The Kenyan Camper, and this weekend we finally made it! We had always been put off by the long drive, but Heidi’s getting older, and we thought with the extra long Easter weekend, it was a good time to give it a try.
The views in the Chyulu Hills are beyond spectacular, and they make the drive totally worth it. We spent the weekend hiking the nearby hills, flying kites, and enjoying sunrises and sunsets. We even organized a big Easter egg hunt for the kids! The beauty of the rolling hills is hard to describe, and even photos don’t do them justice. But here are some of my favorite shots from the weekend, if you’d like to see…
We set up camp at Satellite campsite, way up in the hills, and we couldn’t get enough of these views. The Chyulus just keep on giving, from sunrise, to sunset – 360 degrees of stunning.
The hiking around camp was also great. We hiked up to the satellite towers, which gave us a great view of our campsite. It was a misty day, which was great for hiking.
This is kite flying country – no trees, and plenty of wind! It’s a great spot to see the distant rainstorms, and we were lucky enough to spot a rainbow.
The Easter bunny made a visit to our campsite, and the kids scrambled around hunting for eggs. It was a pretty charming spot for an Easter egg hunt!
We also hiked down the valley and up the hill across from camp, and soaked in the magnificent landscapes. Claire is like a mountain goat, and flew up that hill all by herself. I walked slowly up with Heidi, who did the entire hike under her own steam. She’s the strongest 3 year old I know!
If you want information on the campsite, and details on getting there, please check out this excellent post by The Kenyan Camper. His blog is loaded with travel inspiration! I can’t believe I waited so long to visit the Chyulu Hills. We miss them already, and can’t wait to go back.
